Well, here it is. The "real" Baja California you've been searching for, with great surf breaking right outside your door. Kids of all ages journey from far and wide to get to this incredible surfer's paradise and when they arrive they stay at the cozy, secure hostel known as Cuatro Casas.
Located just past Colonet (approximately 100 miles south of Ensenada) Cuatro Casas will be the perfect host for your long awaited surf trip. New to surfing? No worries there. Three hour lessons for grommets or intermediate surfers are available for the ridiculously low price of $20.
Dormitories, private rooms, showers and food are not the only amenities offered at fantastically economical prices here. You can also rent surf boards, wet suits, kayaks, fishing tackle, snorkeling gear and even skateboards to help you showcase your 'other' boarding skills in the custom built on-site "Show Bowl".
Cuatro Casas prides itself on offering you a safe haven for your belongings while you head out for a day in the wild, assured that when you return for the night you will always find good folk to hang out with and a comfortable bed. Visitors during lobster season are especially stoked, with staff cooking up mouth watering batches of lobster and other seafood right there within the hostel.
Cuatro Casas is laid back, quiet and clean. Tasty meals can be purchased at the hostel but you're close enough to both Colonet and San Quintin to head into town if you're looking for a larger selection of restaurants, shops and bars. Better yet, feel like catching your own dinner? While you're in San Quintin consider hiring a local fishing boat and heading out into the abundant local waters between Punta Colonet and Isla San Martir to catch some exquisite yellowtail, red snapper, white sea bass or cod.
For travelers who appreciate eco-friendly, green businesses, you'll love that Cuatro Casas' mission is to be a low impact operation that consistently works on being sustainable. They are proud to announce they are "off the grid" and rely on solar energy panels and a solar powered water distiller. Yay, clean energy!
If you're more into land than water sports, you'll definitely enjoy awesome hiking in the nearby San Pedro de Martir National Park, whale watching from the beach right in front of Cuatro Casas, mountain biking, checking out local petroglyphs and pictographs, or just relaxing on the beach and getting to know the locals.
Perfect spot. Perfect break. Perfect price. No more excuses! It's time to grab your board and your buddies and head for Cuatro Casas!
