The Baja Bike Race will be held on June 21st, 2015. This is a brand new cycling event to push the bicycle enthusiast past their comfort zone. This event is also a fun bike ride, so it's fine if competition is not your thing. The route will take riders on a closed course through the scenic Baja wine country from the city of Tecate to the city of Ensenada totaling 73 miles. During the ride, participants will climb almost 4000 feet with 4 major hills. To create additional competition amongst riders, they have created a race within the race to the top of one of the hills. Competitors with the fastest time will earn themselves King and Queen of the hill!
Event organizer Joshua Poe states "We created this race for the love of cycling. The route challenges all levels of riders and has history from way back in the 1970’s. A company called Monday International owned by David Manwaring first created this event. David is responsible for bringing cycling to Baja California. Back then, it was just a fun ride, but we decided to bring it back as a race. It is my pleasure to bring back such an infamous ride route. See you at the finish line!"
On Saturday May 20th, there will be a pre-race expo in Tecate located at the local art museum. There will be a full food and wine festival as well as cycling/sports vendors. Participants will have a chance to pick up their race bibs at the expo or first thing the morning of the race. After the race, there will be a finish line fiesta just outside the San Nicolas Hotel in Ensenada. There will be live music to enjoy while you check out check out the cycling/food vendors and Baja Bike Bike Race apparel for sale.
