Popotla is a reefbreak just south of Rosarito that has a good lefthander and a fickle right, depending on the swell. The wave is really rocky so booties are a must, so this wave is recommended for experienced surfers only. Access can be difficult, since the wave breaks in front of a gated community. The lineup usually has some locals out, so be respectful. To get to Popotla, take the toll road just past the last exit for Rosarito and merge onto the free road. Head south for two kilometers and Popotla will be on your right, just after passing Fox Studios.
